What's New in Other Search Engines

MEDLINE Search
Medline is a search engine maintained by the National Library of Medicine. The engine contains abstract information on Medical journals and publications, as well as complete articles, and/or links to publishers who have the full online publications. There are over 7 million publications indexed in this database and they are fully searchable via this interface. The Medline search engine can be accessed by clicking the appropriate link above.

US Geological Search
US Geo search is a service made available by the US Geological Association. The database is maintained by USGS. To access this interface click on the US Geo Search link above. You will be presented with the first search screen. This search engine has two search modes, simple and advanced. The simple search is a free text search of all the information contained in the database. The advanced search allows you to use Boolean logic within your search criteria. You can toggle between the simple and advanced modes by clicking on the links next to the search boxes. You can also choose to view, or not view the summary information for these searches.

US Patent Trademark Search
On the top of this page are links for the patent and trademark search engines. This search interface has two basic sections, Advanced search and Boolean search. In the Advanced search section, you will see the categories available for your search. You can add parameters to some, or all of these fields. You may enter data in, and consequently search by, as many fields as you want. Patent and trademark information dates back to 1979. Please make a special note to pay attention to which years you will be searching. The default search only searches within the past few years. Once you submit your search, the search results are displayed. In the Patent Boolean search, you are able to specify only two fields at one time. You can choose to search all fields at the same time, or select to search individual fields. The Boolean operators will allow you to be more specific with your search criteria. After your search is run, the results will be displayed. The results contain hyperlinks, and clicking on them will take you to more detailed patent information. Inside the patent you might also notice other links. These links will take you to subsequent information stored in the Patent/Trademark database.

Agricola Search
Agricola search is a search engine of bibliographical indexes supplied by the USDA. This search engine allows you to find publications and periodicals based on certain search criteria. The actual articles and publications themselves are not available on this interface. Searching this interface allows you to find the names of articles and publications pertaining to specific search criteria, as it relates to the USDA. There are two modes to this search, books and publications. Each of these sections has their own database.
